Helping Teachers Gain Reflexology Coverage in Their Health Plans

Teachers in Nova Scotia and PEI face high stress and limited support. While their peers in other provinces have reflexology included in health plans, our teachers are left without access. It’s time to change that.

ACART'S Goal

Teachers are at the heart of our communities.
Every day they show up for our children, often carrying the weight of stress, long hours, and increasing demands.

Reflexology is a safe, effective way to reduce stress, support overall health, and promote balance.
Teachers in provinces like New Brunswick already have access to reflexology through their benefits — but here in Nova Scotia and PEI, they don’t.

This campaign is about fairness, wellness, and recognizing the value of teachers. Together, we can advocate for change.
We are uniting reflexologists, teachers, and community supporters to request that reflexology be added to teacher health plans in Nova Scotia and PEI.
Here’s how we’re doing it:
  • Collecting teacher testimonials to highlight real experiences.
  • Gathering HR forms from teachers requesting coverage.
  • Sharing research and evidence on the benefits of reflexology.
  • Presenting to school boards and unions with a united voice.
  • Hosting education and outreach events during Reflexology Week this September.
Testimonials and Stories

(Stories coming soon!)

Teachers give so much of themselves every day. It’s time they had the same support other provinces already provide. By completing a simple HR form and sharing your story, you can help bring reflexology into teacher health plans. Every form, every voice, every action matters.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is this campaign about?
This campaign is a collective effort led by reflexologists across Nova Scotia and PEI to request reflexology coverage in teacher health benefit plans. While many teacher benefit plans across Canada already include reflexology, teachers in our region currently do not have this option.
Why reflexology?
Reflexology is a recognized complementary health therapy that helps reduce stress, support mental health, and improve overall wellness. For teachers, this means better resilience, less burnout, and improved quality of life — benefits that directly support classroom performance and student outcomes.
Why do you need teachers to fill out this form?
Benefit providers and HR departments respond best to direct requests from employees. When teachers themselves ask for coverage, it carries more weight than outside advocacy alone. Collecting signed requests shows a clear and collective need.
Will my information be kept private?
Yes. Your form will be collected by a reflexologist participating in this campaign and submitted only to your school board’s HR department. Your information will not be shared publicly.
Do I have to write a testimonial?
No. Testimonials are optional. However, including your personal experience or reasoning adds a powerful voice to the request and helps HR understand the real impact reflexology could have on teachers.
How many forms are needed to make a difference?
The more, the better. A large number of submissions demonstrates strong demand and increases the likelihood of coverage being added. Even a handful of forms can start the conversation with HR, but collective action is key.
What happens after I submit my form?
Once forms are collected, reflexologists will submit them in batches to HR departments, along with educational material about reflexology. We’ll continue to follow up and update teachers as the campaign progresses.
How can I help beyond filling out the form?
Encourage other teachers to participate.

Share your experience with colleagues.

Talk to your union representative about the importance of reflexology coverage.
